Beaverton Church of God dissolves Community members at Beaverton Church of God have a renewed sense of mission and are excited for the future after announcing a major change for the congregation.
On June 21, congregants "bravely and selflessly" chose to pursue a new course of action for the future of their ministry. With a two-thirds vote, they chose to dissolve as a congregation in order to join a local sister church, Eagle Ridge Church of God in Midland.
As a result of this change, the Beaverton church will close completely and will relaunch as a satellite campus of Eagle Ridge near the end of the year. This will allow the new "Eagle Ridge Church of God, Beaverton Campus" to do more than they have in the past.
With a focus on outreach, serving the community, and transforming the building into a community center usable by youth and community members during the week, people are excited for the transformation.
"We've struggled for quite a while," said Barb Andrist, chair of the church board, "But we are excited to be accepted by Eagle Ridge."
"God has great things planned for our community," she added.
The senior pastor of Eagle Ridge, William Greiner, cherished their decision and the process they took to arrive at it.
"They've done something outstandingly courageous. Just completely outside of the norm," Greiner said. "And Eagle Ridge is excited to be joining together with them to form one church in two locations. We just believe that we are better together."
The Beaverton Church of God held its last service on July 12. It was a special occasion for all involved with mixed emotion.
