The Georgia agency that oversees nursing homes has one of the nation's worst records for timely inspections, an AJC investigation finds. The state Department of Community Health, the agency responsible for oversight, said delays in inspections are due to a shortage of inspectors and its suspension of routine inspections at the start of the pandemic, which created a backlog.
