SEP 9, 2020 - The Oklahoma Genealogical Society will host the webinar program “Native American Genealogy & Research” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 20. Rick Fogarty, who specializes in Native American tribal, adoption and DNA/forensic genealogical research, will be the presenter. Fogarty is a professional genealogist and lecturer in Hazlet, New Jersey, and a third-generation genealogist with Oklahoma roots and a citizen of the Muscogee Creek Nation. He has attended the Boston University forensic genealogy course, the Forensic Genealogy Institute genetic genealogy course, Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy, and the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research.

SEP 9, 2020 - The Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission Aviation Education Program has awarded a $5,000 grant to Mustang High School that will allow for the purchase of a flight simulator for the school. “This will mean so much to our students to have the hands-on opportunity to simulate flight … it will be unparalleled,” said Mustang High School teacher Christy Self, who had applied for the grant. Grants were available for education programs that are aviation and aerospace-minded for primary through post-secondary education. The program funds are part of more than $300,000 the agency annually provides to programs statewide aimed at exposing more Oklahoma young people to STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and careers in

SEP 9, 2020 - The Oklahoma Arts Council has awarded a $2,500 grant to the Mustang Education Center. The center houses a half-day pre-kindergarten program for 3- and 4-year olds and an alternative education program for high school students. For each of the last seven years, the Mustang Education Center has applied for and received grant funding from the Oklahoma Arts Council to provide arts instruction to their high school students. In mid-August, Principal Daryl Williamson received word the school had been awarded a grant for the fall 2020 semester.

SEP 9, 2020 - The brackets have been set for the annual Heather Harkness Invitational.The tournament, which is Friday and Saturday at Edmond Santa Fe, will host some of the top teams from Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Included are the three Edmond high schools, Deer Creek, Oklahoma Christian School, Jenks, Tulsa Union and the OKC Storm home school team.Play is set to begin at 9 a.m. Friday. Teams will be split into groups of four and play round robin before being split into Gold and Silver brackets for Saturday. Spectators will be allowed but only in the stands. SEP 9, 2020 - NORMAN — Obi Obialo didn’t make an appearance in the 2016 Bedlam game. But Obialo was there at Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. The now-senior wide receiver for OU, though, was in black, white and orange instead of the crimson and cream. “It was a special experience, something I’d seen growing up on TV all the time,” Obialo said. Obialo is a rarity — a player who will have experienced both sides of Bedlam. “I’ve got to see both sides of the spectrum,” Obialo said. “I’m just one of one actually. I feel blessed to be at that point. Obialo is expected to make his Sooners debut Saturday when No. 5 OU hosts Missouri State (6 p.m., pay-per-view).
