The issue of how this City Council conducts business came up during the discussion on consent searches at the virtual work session on Tuesday, Aug. 11. Councilmember Michelle Kennedy said that the City Council had been working on requiring a written consent form for police consent searches for a year and it was time to take action.

My divorce is haunting me. I mean, I feel like the house is haunted. Rationally, I do not believe in ghosts, but the spirit of my ex seems to be everywhere I turn in the home where we used to live together. We lived here for 10 years. We built this home together. I took the house in our equitable distribution settlement, thinking it would be the right lifestyle decision, but it has not happened that way. I met a new male friend, and he is not excited about the concept of us living in my “ex’s old house.”

If you work crossword puzzles, you get used to certain words that get used over and over because they combine well with the words that intersect with them.  For instance, the word “ape.”  Now, there’s nothing wrong with “ape” when you define it as “Chimp, e.g.” or “Orang or Gibbon.”

The New York Times (my source, by the way) has reported an interview with a Democrat Party operative who is tasked with conducting mail-in ballot voter fraud. The individual in question reveled techniques they used to stuff the ballot box in elections on all levels from city and towns all the way up to Senate and House elections. But hey, this is all conspiracy theory, the stuff of tin foil hat wearers. Ignore the details he revealed.

It’s time to wish the Sound of the Beep a fond farewell.  We started running the Sound of the Beep at The Rhinoceros Timesin the mid 1990s.  I had read an article about a newspaper hooking up an answering machine to a phone line and transcribing the results to the delight of its readers.  I called up the editor to find out if there was more to it than that.   He said that there wasn’t and warned me that for a month or two we’d be inundated with calls but then the calls would dwindle down to a couple a week.
